Join us for a special evening of film, storytelling, creativity, and conversation featuring screenings from San Quentin Rehabilitation Center (SQRC) and Cedars, followed by a panel discussion.

San Quentin Rehabilitation Center (SQRC)
San Quentin Rehabilitation Center (SQRC) will present a special screening featuring films created by currently and formerly incarcerated filmmakers. Through their work, these filmmakers share powerful stories, perspectives, and lived experiences, offering audiences a unique opportunity for connection, reflection, and understanding.

Cedar Shorts
Cedars Shorts shares a glimpse of a Marin nonprofit that supports adults with developmental disabilities through residential and day programs. After a brief overview of Cedars providing context about the clients we serve and their art, a series of short videos invites viewers into the daily lives and vivid imaginations of Cedars participants.

The film features a series of lively animation videos created by Cedars clients with the assistance of art instructor Daniel Krakauer. Animation subjects range from a humorous tale about a cat on a quest for fish to an epic fantasy adventure and a story about aliens with a Marin twist.

Lucy’s Story reveals the roots of one artist’s compassion for the unhoused and A Day in the Life of Rose highlights the depth and variety of daily life for a Cedars resident and day program participant. Viewers will also enjoy a peek into the minds of several Cedars artists as they explore the artistic process through puppetry and drawing.

Chance Andes
Warden, San Quentin Rehabilitation Center (SQRC)

Chance Andes assumed the role of Warden at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center (SQRC) in December 2024, following his tenure as Acting Warden since January 2024. Prior to this assignment, Warden Andes served as a Correctional Administrator at California State Prison, Sacramento. He began his career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) in March 2003 at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center.

Over his more than two decades of service, Warden Andes has held progressively responsible positions across multiple institutions, including Deuel Vocational Institution, California Medical Facility, California Correctional Center, Sierra Conservation Center, Correctional Training Facility, and the Class Action Management Unit. Throughout these assignments, he has served in key leadership roles, including Associate Warden, Correctional Captain, Correctional Lieutenant, Correctional Sergeant, and Correctional Officer.

Warden Andes is committed to fostering a rehabilitative environment within the correctional system. He prioritizes evidence-based rehabilitation programs, staff development, and community engagement to enhance public safety and reduce recidivism. His leadership focuses on progressive correctional strategies that support both incarcerated rehabilitation and community integration, ensuring that SQRC remains a model for correctional reform.

Daniel Krakauer
Cedars Art Facilitator—11 years

Daniel Krakauer is an artist and educator living in San Anselmo. He has been an art facilitator at Cedars for 11 years, and he says it is easily the most fun, engaging job he’s had. He started the animation project as a natural extension of the puppet making he was doing with the artists. It has turned out to be a great way to capture and share the storytelling and design talents of the Cedars artists.

Mary O’Mara, Moderator

Mary is the Executive Director of MarinLink, MarinArts, and MarinCreates. She brings over 20 years experience helping community-minded people realize their dreams in Marin. Mary is also Board Member of the Marin Economic Forum and member of Marin Forum. A graduate of San Francisco State University, she holds an MBA in Strategic Leadership from Dominican University of California. She is currently Core Adjunct Professor at National University.
