Artwork from the William James Association Prison Arts Project is featured in the Maurice Del Mue Galleries this September.

For nearly 50 years, the William James Association Prison Arts Project has brought professional artists into California prisons, providing opportunities for incarcerated individuals to explore creativity, self-expression, healing, and personal transformation through the arts. There will be a reception on September 20 as part of the International Day of Peace Festival Art & Music Finale.

This year, artists participating in the Prison Arts Project created original artwork on skateboards for I AM EUREKA, a nonprofit founded by Chad Regan, co-owner of Humboldt Skate Lab. Through its annual skateboard art fundraiser, I AM EUREKA sells artist-designed skateboards to raise funds for skateboards and helmets for disadvantaged youth—creating a meaningful connection between incarcerated artists, their creative work, and support for young people in the community.

The galleries are open in the Valley Room and Living Room for public viewing Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, unless classes are in session. Please call ahead for the best viewing time.
