August 14, 2026, 5–8pm • participating venues in downtown San Rafael

Art Works Downtown  1325–1337 Fourth Street, 5–8pm

  • (3 words_: an art game of telephone (Gallery 1337)
Featuring an expanding network of Bay Area artists, (3 words) is a visual and verbal art game in which the exhibition theme mutates playfully over the course of the show. An artist chooses one work of art and describes it to another artist in just 3 words. Using those words as a prompt, the second artist chooses a work of their own to exhibit, then shares 3 words about that piece to a third artist. And so on, until the gallery is filled.

Will artworks added later in the game retain traces of the original theme, or will they forge into entirely new territory? We’ll follow the threads and find out.

  • Dreaming Through the Chaos: Storytelling through Uncertain Times by Lucie Dupuis (Founders’ Gallery)
Dreams are the bridge between the rational world and the profound complexities of our subconscious. They offer a unique language – a form of storytelling – that allows us to process memories and the tensions of our current reality. Dreaming Through the Chaos invites the audience into this dreamscape, where intricate bird-like sculptures serve as guides through a surrealist realm of ambiguous meanings and tentative interpretations, fostering a deeper connection to our own internal narratives.

Lucie Dupuis is a Marin-based French-American sculptor whose work combines porcelain, stained glass, metal, and found objects. Her practice focuses on the dialogue between various materials, using unexpected juxtaposition to pull the viewer out of their comfort zone and invite them to forge their own personal meaning. Her studio residency at Art Works Downtown has provided the dedicated time and space needed to evolve these sculptures into a cohesive body of work.

Lucie Dupuis is the 2025–2026 Max Thelen Studio Resident Artist. The Fenwick Foundation generously funds the program in commemoration of Max Thelen Jr. The residency aims to support emerging artists by providing free studio space, exhibition opportunity, and exposure to the public for one year.

  • Artists Give Back — Celebrating Phyllis Thelen • Benefiting Art Works Downtown (1325 Donors’ Gallery)
In celebration of Phyllis’s birthday and her lifelong connection to the arts, artists will generously donate artwork to be offered for bidding, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Art Works Downtown.

The event honors Phyllis and her love of art while bringing artists and supporters together to give back to Art Works Downtown..

Marin Jewelers Guild  1331 Fourth Street, 5–8pm

Marin Jewelers Guild’s unique gallery and online store are a cooperative of local artisan jewelers who hand fabricate jewelry from silver, gold, copper and bronze. Choose from the wide variety of handmade necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches and earrings available, or commission a piece and work directly with an artist to design your own one-of-a-kind creation.

When you visit our gallery in downtown San Rafael you will always be greeted by a local artisan jeweler. Our customers love the personal attention, free gift wrap, and the chance to collaborate one-on-one with an artist. Choosing or creating treasured gifts to celebrate birthdays, engagements, weddings, anniversaries, arrival of baby, and graduations often turns into lifelong friendships as we share your joy and milestones right along with you.

Our Gallery & Boutique is an extension of everything the San Anselmo Ceramic Art Center of Marin (CACM) stands for, a carefully curated space where the artistry of our studio comes to life. Featuring works and exhibits by our members and students alongside pieces by select Bay Area ceramic artists, both the CACM Gallery and the Boutique celebrate the full range of what can be born from clay: from sculptural works and functional ceramics to one-of-a-kind jewelry and ceramic gifts.

Every piece carries a story, a conversation between the artist’s hand, intention, and the timeless alchemy of fire and clay. Whether you are an avid collector or simply drawn to the beauty of handmade objects, our boutique invites you to bring a piece of that artistry home.

Make sure to visit us every second Friday of the month, during 2nd Friday Art Walk, AWD’s public hours or by appointment.
