Workshop & Classes
A Sculpture A Day, an Adult Continuing Education course at The San Francisco Art Institute this summer is being taught by Lorna Stevens. This class is for anyone-beginner to experienced artist-who wants to visit, revisit, begin or continue their three-dimensional art practice. For six weeks, we will explore the materials, techniques, and concepts of sculpture through a series of small-scale projects. Each week a different project will be introduced, worked on and completed, though our focus is on creative exploration rather than a calculated end product. The projects are designed to integrate both traditional and contemporary materials and concepts and include: making expressive clay portraits, creating a culturally significant object, creating an object from printed materials, considering the positive and negative in plaster relief, working with the three dimensional line (sited) and working with found objects and humor. Each class will include a discussion of related current and historical art and a group critique. A Sculpture A Day meets on Tuesdays evenings from 6:30-9:30 from June 1-July 6. For more information contact Lorna Stevens at emaillorna@aol.com or go to www.lornastevens.com.

Carol Duchamp Watercolors. Wet-into Wet watercolor and acrylic painting techniques offer the amateur and professional painter the broadest expressive range. Students learn how to use the energy of the moment in creative ways. The concept of dialogue between artist and painting is discussed and encouraged. Beautiful passages surface on their own thanks to the nature of these water-based mediums. This is the poetry of spontaneity in painting! We take an intuitive approach to color and composition, likening our visual forays to music. The inner rhythm of a painting, whether representational or abstract, is established through choices made about form, color, composition and energy. Tips and techniques for wet-into-wet painting are fully covered including wetting the paper or raw canvas (pre-soaked, hand wet and pre-moistened area painting), water and pigment interaction, edge tinting, compositional energy, brushwork, color and form. Whether your work is representational or abstract, you will benefit from the wide range of traditional and non-traditional approaches to wet-into-wet painting presented. Individualized instruction. We create a warm and supportive environment that nourishes the intuitive power of self-expression. To enroll contact Carol Duchamp at 415/868.9558 or email carol@arttreks.com for information about classes.
